Connecting the the AirOS serial console

For any terminal program, the important (default) settings are:

  • Baud Rate: 9600
  • Data Bits: 8
  • Stop Bits: 1
  • Parity: None
  • Flow Control: None

Terminal Emulator Software

PuTTY

PuTTY is very easy to use, feature rich, open source application which is available for both windows and linux.

Launch putty, and

Set your Session settings:

Set your Serial settings:

Make sure to click Save on the Session page when you are done!

Now:

  1. Make sure your TTL cable is plugged into your computer
  2. Launch putty, and load the session we created
  3. Connect the ethernet/power cable to the unit
  4. Connect the TTL cable to the unit
  5. Watch the unit boot

Conclusion

You can now interrupt the Redboot sequence by hitting Ctrl-C, monitor the kernel boot, load a new firmware, or anything else you need to do. Have fun, and be careful!
